The blast happened shortly before dawn, at around 6.30 a.m. local time, at the eastern gate of the Baba Farid Shrine when two men on a motorcycle dropped off a milk container near the gate. Moments later the container exploded, creating a huge ball of fire.

Monday’s blast is the third major attack on a shrine in Pakistan over the past four months. On July 1, at least 40 people were killed and more than 170 others were injured during an attack at the Datta Darbar Shrine in Lahore. Another attack happened at the Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine in Karachi, killing 14 people and injuring more than 70 others.

The explosive device detonated under a canopy at the Culture and Sport Palace in the North Caucasus city, as people were making their way to a concert by a musical ensemble from conflict-torn Chechnya.The victims were spectators, officials were quoted as saying.
Reuters explains:
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev last year ordered that Stavropol Region be included in a new North Caucasus Federal District along with mainly-Muslim Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia in a bid to tackle growing violence.
Medvedev's new envoy to the district, former metals executive Alexander Khloponin, on Wednesday called an emergency meeting to discuss the bombing, RIA reported.
Stavropol city is 350 km (220 miles) northwest of Chechnya's local capital Grozny. It has largely escaped Islamist insurgent attacks, but the surrounding region has seen some of the deadliest attacks in the long-running conflict.
Chechen rebels seized hundreds of hostages in a hospital in the Stavropol Region town of Budyonnovsk in 1995 and more than 100 died during the rebel assault and a botched Russian raid.
In the last major attack, seven Russian policemen and 12 gunmen were killed when special forces stormed houses to fight rebels holed up in a village near the city in 2006.

A small bomb exploded outside a mosque in the Bakara Market section of Mogadishu Tuesday, killing at least one person and injuring more than four others.
The mosque is located in an area of the city dominated by al-Shabab and Hizbul Islam fighters.
Al-Shabab and other Islamic insurgent groups control much of Mogadishu along with large parts of southern and central Somalia. The groups are fighting to impose a strict form of sharia, or Islamic law, on the country.
AU peacekeepers from Uganda and Burundi are supporting the government and frequently clash with the insurgents.
War-torn Somalia has not had a stable central government since 1991.

"One remote control bomb on the road was detonated while a police convoy was passing on the road. And the second bomb was set in motorbike, on the same road, and that detonated after the first one," said Zalmai Ayoobi, a spokesman for the Kandahar government.
RTE News reports:
Mr Sherzad said he believed he was the target of the attack, in which two civilians died, although he was not in the convoy at the time.
A third blast took place about two hours later but no one was injured.
Kandahar, which is seen as the key battleground in US-led efforts to reverse an insurgency that has lasted nearly nine years, has been the scene of escalating Taliban violence including similar bombings, assassinations and suicide attacks in recent months.
The UN has ordered its staff in Kandahar to stay indoors due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the volatile city.

A series of bombings mainly targeting Shiite worshippers killed at least 60 people on Friday, officials said, just days after U.S. and Iraqi forces killed the top two al-Qaida leaders in Iraq in what was described as devastating blow to the insurgency.The apparently coordinated attack, which occurred in a two-hour timespan, demonstrated insurgents remain a potent force despite U.S. and Iraqi claims that the terror network is on the run.
Officials have warned insurgents remain capable of staging high-profile bombings in a bid to reignite sectarian tensions that pushed the country to the brink of civil war.
Extremists are also seeking to exploit political deadlock after the inconclusive March 7 parliamentary election as U.S. forces prepare to go withdraw from the country by the end of 2011.

"Two people were injured as a result of the first explosion. One of them is the son of Federal Security Service [FSB] Colonel Kamil Etimbekov, who was killed in 2004 in the yard of the same house," a police spokesman said.
According to media reports, FSB Colonel Etimbekov investigated large-scale terrorist attacks before he was killed in June 2004.
The second man injured in Tuesday's explosion was also Etimbekov's relative. Both were hospitalized.
The second explosion occurred 50 meters (164 feet) from the first one. The explosive device had been placed in a garbage can. No one was injured.
Russia's mainly Muslim North Caucasus republics, especially Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia, have seen an upsurge of militant violence lately, with frequent attacks on police and officials.

Taliban and al-Qaida militants based in the Afghan border region — who are fighting Pakistani police and the army — have carried out hundreds of attacks over the last three years. They have frequently targeted security forces, government officials and their supporters or family members in mosques, schools and markets, showing no concern for civilian casualties.

The bomb was planted in a wall beside one of the entrances to the Chinnaswamy stadium, which is particularly vulnerable because it has a road running around its perimeter.
The bomb, along with another which exploded several hundred yards from the stadium, was described as "low-intensity" by the police. But it heightened the fears of the International Cricket Council about the next World Cup, which is due to be staged in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka starting in February 2011, Pakistan having already been ruled out on security grounds.

The militants sprayed bullets at terrified civilians scrambling for safety, and engaged in a gun battle with security forces on the outskirts of Isabela that lasted for at least three hours, according to military chiefs.
The first bomb went off about 10:30 am (0230 GMT) outside an education department building near a high school sports grandstand, provincial police chief Antonio Mendoza said in Isabela.
He said the second, rigged to a motorcycle left near a Roman Catholic cathedral, went off minutes later as security forces chased the suspects.
